Leave TASHILOG GARAGE in Hachioji early in the morning, take the Tomei Expressway and the Odawara-Atsugi Road, and dive straight into Hakone's legendary driving roads on this half-day winding loop. By combining signal-free toll roads, you enjoy both scenery and riding while avoiding traffic.
Highlights
- Anest Iwata Turnpike Hakone: A roughly 14 km mountain toll road that climbs from Odawara to Daikanzan at about 1,000 m elevation, with excellent pavement and wide lanes — a classic feel-good ride.
- Daikanzan Observatory: One of Hakone's finest panoramas, with Mt. Fuji rising behind Lake Ashi, and views stretching to Sagami Bay and the Izu Peninsula.
- Ashinoko Skyline (Mikuni Pass Lookout): A scenic ridge-line winding road along Hakone's outer rim. From Mikuni Pass, a vast panorama unfolds from the foot of Mt. Fuji to Suruga Bay.
Riding Tips
Weekends get busy after 9 a.m., so an early start is recommended. Some Turnpike curves are tight; use a low gear on descents. Weather changes quickly at altitude, so bring warm and rain gear. The toll roads charge fees (with motorcycle rates) — please check in advance.

Anest Iwata Turnpike Hakone
A mountain toll road climbing from Odawara up to Daikanzan — the star winding road of this course.
TIPSAbout 14 km of climbing from the Hayakawa tollgate in Odawara, with a dedicated motorcycle rate. Pavement is good but some curves are tight — use a low gear on descents. ETC is not accepted, but ETCX is available.

Daikanzan Observatory (Anest Iwata Sky Lounge)
At about 1,015 m, one of Hakone's finest panoramas where Mt. Fuji rises behind Lake Ashi, with a rest facility and restrooms.
TIPSMt. Fuji and Lake Ashi lie ahead, while the opposite side looks over Sagami Bay and Izu Oshima. The Sky Lounge offers light meals and drinks, and the parking lot has motorcycle spaces.

Mikuni Pass Lookout (Ashinoko Skyline)
The highlight of the Ashinoko Skyline ridge-line road, a lookout offering a full view of Mt. Fuji.
HISTORYThe name Mikuni ('three provinces') Pass is said to come from its location at the former border of Sagami, Suruga, and Izu provinces.
TIPSA sweeping panorama from the foot of Mt. Fuji across the Gotemba and Numazu cityscapes to Suruga Bay and the Izu Peninsula. The whole Ashinoko Skyline is a scenic winding road with more lookouts at Yamabushi and Shakushi passes. Tolls are generally cash only, so carry some.

Michi-no-Eki Hakone-toge
A lunch stop where you can enjoy signature soba from counter seats overlooking Lake Ashi.
TIPSThe specialty is 'Hakone-toge soba'; there are also kakiage soba, curry udon, and premium soft-serve. The shop sells souvenirs like smoked eggs and Hakone rusk. It is open during daytime hours, so visit early when busy.
